This unit houses several different strains of mouse (BALB/c, C57BL/6, athymic nude mouse (nu/nu), as well as ApoE, FVBN and ACE2 knockout mouse) and rat (Sprague-Dawley). Variety of research models are being developed by using these animals. Our facility contains eight individually heated and ventilated animal rooms. Three of these rooms are suitable for maintaining genetically modified or immune-deficient mouse colonies with micro-isolator cages (The TECNIPLAST SealsafeTM Individually Ventilated Cage (IVC) System). In addition, the facility contains rooms for animal anaesthesia, surgery and in vivo imaging (IVIS® Lumina Series III). Our animal facility is licensed by The Ministry of Agriculture to operate and produce experimental animals. The facility gives services not only to the members of the Dept. of Molecular Biology and Genetics but also to other researchers across Türkiye. Our facility provides experimental animals for the researchers for a fee if their experimental protocol has been approved by an institutional animal care and use committee (BILHADYEK). One veterinarian and two technicians are working in the unit.
